* 1969 Rieden
Benno Bernet is primarily self-taught on the hammered dulcimer. He received his first instrument from his parents instead of a drum set, "so that he could make the drumming motion with sticks on sweet-sounding strings instead of making unpleasant noise".
He first appeared in concert in 1987, performing as soloist at the premiere of Robert Wenger’s Adagio, Theme and Variations for Hammered Dulcimer and Strings in Rieden/SG. He recorded this work for Swiss Radio DRS in 1990.
Benno Bernet performed Leopold Mozart’s "Farmer’s Wedding" with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra in 1991. Other concerts followed, such as the premiere of Paul Huber’s Concerto for Dulcimer and String Orchestra in 1994 (likewise in his home town of Rieden/SG). He later performed this concerto in the Zurich Tonhalle.
Benno Bernet is currently studying
at the St. Gall Jazz School.
